Lorelei's resin component challenge!

This one has proved to be a true challenge.

I have been reading my new book, the wonderful Contemporary Geometric Beadwork by Kate McKinnon and a troop of wonderful beady people (me included). So my brain was full of beadweaving when I took on this challenge.

Here is the first attempt to create some sort of Rick Rack segment between sliders.

That wasn't working out swiftly enough, I will have to think about it longer.  So, I decided to make some peyote tubes.  I really like the greenish blue with the gold, it was a color combo that brought to mind Egyptian faience. I picked up some green blue chinese beads and some magnetic clasps.  Here is an in-progress shot:

The end bracelet is cuff like without the bulk.  I like the boxiness of it though.

I may restring and make the ends go together to have one clasp point. Here is another look:

Thanks, Lorelei, for a another interesting challenge.  I would have never picked these components up on my own!

bead soup blog party! summer 2012

Another great Bead Soup Blog Party by Lori Anderson!

After receiving such a great stash of beads from my partner, Brandy of Bella Vita Handmade Jewelry, I immediately whipped up these earrings with the vintage brass leaves and wonderful green glass beads.  She include many wonderful vintage beads and components!  I then started into the sead beads using a peyote stitch.  That creation is still in progress.

I also gathered up the vintage lucite and made up a bracelet (inspired by my jewelry guru, Lorelei Eurto).  I added a Green Girl bee charm since it went with the honey colored beads.

I used waxed linen and some improvised knots.  I need to brush up on my macrame!

After discovering that I had some quirky Monkeys to deal with, I made this necklace to show them off. See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil, a good phrase to live with. I really enjoyed working with these beads and have so many left to make so many more pieces.  Thanks, Brandy!

wonderful bead soup!

Lori Anderson has arranged another big Bead Soup Blog Party.  So massive it has 3 reveal dates!

This is only half of the wonderful beads I recieved from my Bead Soup partner, Brandy McNair of Bella Vita Handmade Jewelry.  The other half is this:

The most interesting beads were the crazy monkey beads (dark red, in the middle).  They are the "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" monkeys!

Check back to see what I made with them!

Thanks, Brandy!

Lorelei's pinwheel challenge!

I haven't blogged in ages, I have been working on my thesis.  But I took a bit of a break to participate in Lorelei Eurto's pinwheel challenge!

It is a foggy day here in the midwest.  So this is a perfect pick-me-up!  The Jade Scott pinwheels are so cute and remind me of summer.  I took this chance to use these great bottle cap beads from Glass Garden that I picked up in Tucson a couple of years ago. I love the colors but had never found the perfect combination to use with them.

I absolutely love green, but pink and green together remind me of the early 80s preppy time of my life.  So I added some vintage blue glass beads and a strand of aqua ceramic disks that I got at Michaels.  That with the czech faceted rondelles and the cane glass, I really like the overall look.  It will get me thinking of warm breezes and the pool!
